If you like museums, then you’ll probably like Washington. The many Smithsonian museums are excellent and free and open every day of the year except Christmas. In addition to the museums, I’ve enjoyed visiting Ford’s Theatre, the National Archives, the Memorials on the National Mall and Arlington National Cemetery. I’ve been keeping an eye on airfare to Europe for several years and lately it seems good fares are a lot easier to come by. I remember scoring a fare of $504 from Halifax to Copenhagen and out of Stockholm on Icelandair in 2008. A few years later a fare of $549 to Glasgow appeared for a short while and we nabbed it.
