As it’s nearly the middle of July, I guess we’re getting into last minute territory for booking a trip that involves flying somewhere this summer. If anyone is looking to go outside the Maritimes here are a few destinations that currently have low fares on certain dates in August.
Halifax – London ($604) Air Canada + WestJet
This airfare Aug. 22-30 is low but the flights are less than ideal. The outbound is on Air Canada with connections in Toronto and Amsterdam. The flight back is on WestJet and must be booked separately. Still, it’s a great summer fare to London. The Air Canada Halifax to London non-stop is available on a few dates in August for $782.
Halifax – Myrtle Beach ($366) American Airlines
Right now this fare comes up on a few dates in mid-late August but the best dates to get a low fare and avoid having 2 connections include Aug. 18-23. The Best Western Plus Grand Strand Inn & Suites is ranked #9 on TripAdvisor so it might be a good choice to work the BW promos.
Halifax – Deer Lake ($269) Air Canada or WestJet
At the moment, this fare is available on many dates in August. The tricky part I imagine would be finding available accommodation near Gros Morne National Park if that’s your destination.
Bangor – Orlando Sanford ($235) Allegiant
Dates are Aug. 27 – Sept. 2. If you’re in NB and don’t mind a little heat and humidity you can fly from Bangor to Orlando’s smaller airport. Maybe spend a few days at Universal Studios and get early park admission staying at the onsite Cabana Bay Beach Resort for $106.50 USD per night or earn some IHG points at the Holiday Inn Hotel & Suites Across from Universal for $98.56 USD per night (CAA rate). There are quite a few low hotel rates in Orlando on these dates.

If you are feeling adventurous, why not take the “London trip” and only travel with carry on luggage ? Disembark in Amsterdam and enjoy the city. A high speed train from the Netherlands to London via Brussels can turn that 605$ “London trip” into a mini tour of the Low countries.
