Halifax to Iceland $497

Good airfare to Reykjavik non-stop from Halifax. Folks there are probably still basking in soccer glory. Flights are on certain Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays till late September when it changes to Mondays and Thursdays. Last flight back to Halifax is Oct 17. Example summer dates: Aug. 4-11, 11-16, 20-25. Sale ends July 11.

Moncton to Toronto $189 Again

This crazy WestJet fare has appeared once more. $93-$95 one-way on Mondays and Fridays starting Sept. 9 and latest return is Oct. 21. Know anyone in Toronto who wants to come home for Thanksgiving? Or vice versa? There are currently seats available Fri. Oct. 7 – Mon. Oct. 10 for both directions.

If you take a look at the Daily Currency Converter, you’ll see that one British pound will cost you $1.68 Canadian today. Back on June 23 it was $1.89. You’re probably aware of what happened on June 23. Who knows where it will go from here, but if you’re looking to go to London in the relative near future, your budget will stretch a wee bit further now. Aeroplan Market Fares

If you’ve done much searching on the Aeroplan website, you’ve likely noticed a tab called “Market Fares” where the miles required are usually a lot more than the regular “Fixed Mileage” amount. But occasionally the market fare amount is lower than the fixed mileage. At the moment it appears there may be some good deals from Maritime airports using the market fare option.  [Read more…]

Budget Tips for Washington, D.C.

If you like museums, then you’ll probably like Washington. The many Smithsonian museums are excellent and free and open every day of the year except Christmas. In addition to the museums, I’ve enjoyed visiting Ford’s Theatre, the National Archives, the Memorials on the National Mall and Arlington National Cemetery.  The sightseeing is easy and inexpensive so I thought I’d pass along a few tips on getting there and staying there.  [Read more…]

Halifax – Tokyo American Airlines $760

Update July 4 – these fares are still around on select dates – earliest departure now appears to be August 29.

Great fare to Japan on a few dates this Autumn. Flight has 2 connections each way. It seems to be available on weekdays only. Earliest departure appears to be Sept. 29. For example, Thurs. Oct. 6 – Mon. Oct. 17. $760, connecting in Philadelphia and Chicago on the way over and Dallas and Philadelphia on the return.

Doors Open Events

I recently took a points and miles trip to Ottawa. My flight was on Air Miles and my hotel was on IHG points. My next challenge was finding free or cheap sightseeing options. I then discovered that Doors Open Ottawa was coming up. It turned out to be a terrific experience.
