If you’re watching for airfare deals to Europe from Halifax, you’ve likely noticed that the best fares tend to be in May/June and September/October. If you can only travel in July or August, finding a bargain is more of a challenge. I looked to see what’s currently available in the summer of 2020 under $800 per person, return. [Read more…]
Going to Scotland or England? Consider a National Trust for Canada Membership
There’s a great potential money-saving opportunity for anyone travelling to the UK and planning to visit National Trust sites. I recently learned that membership in the National Trust for Canada is also valid in England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland, Jersey and Australia. [Read more…]
Annoying Quirks When Searching For Air Miles Reward Flights (March Break & Easter)
If you participated in last year’s “Shop The Block” Air Miles promotion, you hopefully saw the bonus miles post to your account last week. If they didn’t, or if the bonus amount is incorrect, be sure to contact Air Miles with your transaction info to get your missing miles. Now, with your increased balance, perhaps you’d like to redeem them for a little getaway? I took a look to see what I could find for March Break and Easter. [Read more…]
Can You Cruise from Halifax to Europe and Back?
I’ve occasionally wondered about this. If, for some reason, you cannot or prefer not to fly, is it possible to board a cruise ship in Halifax, sail to Europe, and return the same way? What follows are the bits of info that I’ve been able to uncover as a matter of curiosity. If you want a definitive answer on the subject, consult a travel agent to get the full lowdown. [Read more…]
Best Western Promo – Stay 2 Nights, Get a Free Night (Feb. 18 – April 20, 2020)
A good Best Western promotion has returned. Like last time, when you stay two nights (consecutively or separately), you will get a free night voucher to be used within a limited time. I like straightforward promos like this and it’s possible to extract decent value from it with a bit of planning. Unfortunately, you can only earn one free night. [Read more…]
Saving For Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge: Part 3 – Accommodation
This is the 3rd in my series about saving for a trip to see the new Star Wars attractions now open in both Disneyland in California and Walt Disney World in Florida. It’s time to discuss where to stay and why. I am not a Disney expert by any means but here are my thoughts and opinions on the subject of choosing accommodation. [Read more…]
$60 Voucher For Long-Haul Condor Flights (Valid Till Feb. 13, 2020)
Condor is offering a $60 discount voucher on long-haul flights. Condor flies seasonally from Halifax to Frankfurt and Munich where you can connect onward to many European destinations. This is the first time I’ve noticed an email with a promo code from Condor. Note that it’s limited to the first 750 redemptions. [Read more…]
Marriott Bonvoy Category Changes 2020 (Budget Travel Prospects)
Whenever a hotel loyalty program releases its reward rate changes, it’s almost always bad news. This recent Marriott list is no exception. As of March 4, 2020, far more hotels are going up a category than down. Unless a hotel that you happened to have your eye on is moving to a lower category, the only positive is that you now have some relative certainty around which you can plan travel in the near future. I looked through the list to find some good prospects for a budget traveller. [Read more…]
Air Miles Bonus Boom Promo (Feb. 6-12, 2020)
This Bonus Boom promotion is a collection of Air Miles coupons for various partners. Unlike Mega Miles or Shop The Block where you get a bonus for completing a certain number of offers, there are no extra miles with this one. Still, if you’re going to be shopping at some of these stores anyway, you should take a look. [Read more…]
Halifax to Italy on Condor – Good Open Jaw Fares, Alaska Miles Partner Bonus
If you are considering a trip to Italy, there are some interesting options on Condor. Good fares are popping up from Halifax at the beginning of June. What makes them especially nice is the possibility to fly into one Italian city and out of another with an open-jaw booking. If you’re looking for a deal, it helps to be able to cast a wide net. The Condor website has some frustrating quirks, but it’s quite convenient for searching airfares to Italy. [Read more…]
