I’ve been stalking the Choice Hotels website lately to see the new reward rates for late spring. Choice Privileges is a somewhat unusual and slightly annoying hotel loyalty program, but its quirks are forgivable when you find terrific low point rates in great destinations. [Read more…]
Saving For Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge: Part 2 – Disney Tickets
A while back I wrote the first instalment in this series, Part 1: Orlando or Anaheim, where I shared some thoughts about why you might choose one over the other for a Disney trip. Now I’ll move on to the subject of park tickets. Your ticket to the magic doesn’t come cheap. Visiting Walt Disney World or Disneyland is an expensive proposition so any methods you can use to cut the costs are worth examining. [Read more…]
Radisson Rewards Category Changes Effective February 1, 2020
Radisson Rewards (formerly known as Club Carlson) is not a very popular hotel loyalty program in Canada. There is no co-branded credit card and only one hotel east of Ontario – the Radisson Kingswood Hotel & Suites in Fredericton, NB. If you happen to have some Radisson points, however, you might be interested to know which hotels will be changing categories next month. [Read more…]
Last Minute Halifax To London $551 (January – Early February 2020)
If you’re itching to fly off somewhere and don’t need beaches and palm trees, here’s a great fare to London, UK. It’s on WestJet which means connecting in Toronto (YYZ) as the seasonal non-stop service to London Gatwick (LGW) from Halifax (YHZ) doesn’t begin until April 26th. [Read more…]
Collecting Air Miles In 2020 – Start With The Sobeys Gift Card Promo
A new year has begun so your Air Miles counter has reset to 0. Getting to Gold status is pretty easy at 1000 miles but reaching Onyx means accumulating 6000 miles in the calendar year. As 2019’s Shop The Block promo was reduced from a 2000 maximum bonus down to 1200, it might take a bit more effort to reach your goal in 2020. The key is to watch for ways to get some easy miles and the recurring Sobeys gift card promotion is a good one. [Read more…]
Travel Memories of 2019
Another great year of travels made possible by using points and finding good deals. What sticks in my mind though, is not scoring a low airfare or hotel rate, but all the memories made during trips that wouldn’t have happened otherwise. Here are a few thoughts on what stood out for me in 2019. [Read more…]
On A Budget? Go To New York City Between January 21 & February 9, 2020
If you want to see the sights and sounds of New York City on the cheap, there’s a way to do it and it’s all about timing. January and February are a relatively slow period for tourism in the Big Apple, presumably in part due to something called winter. Fortunately, you’re Canadian, so the weather shouldn’t be a deterrent. During an upcoming 3 week period there are some great opportunities to cut your costs in half while capitalizing on low hotel rates. [Read more…]
$50 Expedia.ca Coupon Code For Activities
[EXPIRED] As of the time of posting, this coupon code is still working. For activities of at least $120, you will save $50 when you apply the code MYSTERY50 on the Canadian Expedia website. After the code has been used by a certain number of people it will expire, so if you’re reading this after that’s happened, here are a few thoughts on how to capitalize on the next good promo code. Hotel Hopping At Universal Orlando – Onsite & Offsite
Recently my mother and I returned from a 4 night stay in Orlando, Florida. It was very similar to a trip we took last December and turned out to be just as much fun this time around. As keen collectors of points and miles, this trip was planned with a little more complexity than it otherwise would have been. Several different loyalty currencies were involved and we flew on 2 airlines and stayed at 3 different hotels over the 4 nights. Having now stayed at various hotels in the area, I’d like to try to shed some light on the choices available when selecting accommodation for a Universal trip. [Read more…]
Condor Adds Halifax – Munich (June – September 2020)
This week Condor Airlines announced that it’s bringing back the Halifax – Munich route. Although it’s just once a week, it’s welcome news to any Maritimers looking for more non-stop flight options to Europe. Currently, other non-stops include London Heathrow on Air Canada and London Gatwick, Glasgow and Dublin on WestJet. Last year WestJet’s Halifax – Paris route was suspended due to the 737 Max 8 situation and that issue remains unresolved (although it appears bookable as a non-stop starting mid May). Icelandair removed Halifax from its seasonal schedule for the same reason. [Read more…]
