There are quite a few Wyndham hotels in the Maritimes. These include brands such as Super 8, Ramada, Travelodge, Days Inn, Howard Johnson and others. The Wyndham website includes a directory so you can check out the locations. There are currently two promotions that might come in handy if your summer travel plans includes one of these hotels.
With the first one you earn $100 in Wyndham Rewards gift cards after 2 qualifying stays until September 6, 2016. These are awarded in the form of 4 separate gift codes that each provide a $25 discount off a future stay at a Wyndham hotel to be used before November 1, 2016. Unfortunately, one can’t use them all on one stay. Here’s a link to the promo. (Remember, 2 consecutive nights at the same hotel counts as 1 stay only.)
The second promotion is for stays till August 1 so if you have a stay coming up next month you can combine these promos. With this one you have to download the Visa Checkout app to pay for your stay. It does not have to be paid with a Visa, however. After each qualifying stay (maximum of 2) you will earn 5000 Wyndham Rewards points. Here’s the link. (I’ve read a couple of reports online that payment need not be made in advance; one apparently just needs to make sure to book the stay using the Visa Checkout app.)
The points from the second promo will be in addition to the base points for your stay which is 10 points per dollar or 1000 points, whichever is more. So, if you max out the promo for 10,000 points after 2 stays you will end up with at least 12,000 points. What can you do with 12,000 Wyndham points? The Wyndham Rewards program is a bit unusual because all hotels are redeemed at the same point level: 15,000. These are called “Go Free” nights but some hotels also offer a “Go Fast” option of 3000 points plus a variable amount of cash. For example, the Go Fast rate at the Travelodge Suites New Glasgow on Sat. Sept. 3 is 3000 points plus $74 ($86.21 with tax) compared to its advance purchase non-cancellable rate of $119 ($138.64 with tax) or cancellable CAA rate of $128.80 ($150.05 with tax).
The savings using the Go Fast rate varies depending on the hotel. Also, you may find extra value at a hotel where you’re able to book something beyond a standard room. For example, take a look at the Hawthorn Suites by Wyndham Orlando International Drive at 7975 Canada Ave. It appears one can book a Go Fast rate for a suite that sleeps up to 8 people breakfast included. Using Sat. Mar. 11, 2017 as an example, you’d pay only $45 ($50.63 with tax) plus 3000 points for a room that would otherwise cost $180.73 per night with tax on a CAA rate. So, if 2 people maxed out the Visa Checkout promo they could book this hotel for 4 nights Mar.11-15 at a great discount.
Lastly, as with all promotions, take a good look at the terms and conditions before you go for it. And be sure to have a plan B (and C etc.) for using the points you earn, because in the time it takes to actually receive them, your planned redemption may no longer be available.
