Wyndham Rewards has announced a summer points promotion. It’s marketed as “Stay 2 Nights & Earn a Free Night” but it’s really a bonus of 7500 Wyndham Rewards points. The promo requires a stay of at least two consecutive nights at one hotel to trigger the bonus.
Stay 2 Nights, Get a Free Night (7500 Points)
Register and complete a 2-night or longer qualifying stay by September 10, 2020 to receive 7500 bonus points.
Members are eligible to earn one bonus only.
Go to the Wyndham website to register and to see the full details.
Note that according to the terms and conditions, if your account is set to earn frequent flyer miles you will still earn base miles but the bonus will post in the form of points.
If you have a stay coming up very soon, it’s apparently possible to stack this promotion with the previous one that awards 2000 Wyndham points per stay for up to 5 stays and which ends July 27th.
Wyndham Rewards has just three redemption rates for free nights or “Go Free” awards as they’re called: 7500 points, 15,000 points and 30,000 points. The 7500 point hotels are scarce and perhaps not overly appealing when you find one. But, having those 7500 points in your account at least puts you halfway to redeeming a free night at one of the much more common 15,000 point hotels.
In addition to the “Go Free” nights, you can also combine cash with Wyndham points in increments of 1500, 3000 or 6000, corresponding to the three reward categories. These are called “Go Fast” rates. The value with these is not as good as when the refreshed program was introduced a few years ago but it’s still nice to have the option to pay with cash and points.
Wyndham Hotels in Atlantic Canada
There are quite a few Wyndham properties in Atlantic Canada. I’m aware of at least a couple of former Country Inn & Suites that became Travelodges a while back. Perhaps the Travelodges that have “Suites” in the name are in the group that re-branded.

Conclusion
If you have a stay of two nights or longer coming up, consider registering for this promotion and booking a Wyndham hotel. I sort of wish they wouldn’t refer to it as a “free night” when it’s just a points bonus that won’t actually get you a free night at many of their properties. However, it’s the same game Choice Privileges plays, and if I had to choose, I’d give Choice the edge because you can pretty much count on them to bring back the 8000 point promo, along with relatively frequent opportunities to purchase points at a discount.
