This is a nice straightforward promotion. Register, complete two qualifying stays at Wyndham Rewards hotels in Canada by February 18, 2020, get 15,000 points added to your account. Wyndham Rewards includes many recognizable brands such as Ramada, Super 8, Days Inn, Wingate, La Quinta, Howard Johnson, Travelodge and other less common ones. Check them all out here.
Promotion Requirements
This promo requires two separate stays in Canada to earn the bonus. A single multi-night booking or two consecutive bookings will only count as one stay. The points will be added to your account 2 to 4 weeks after the second stay, according to the terms. You may only earn the bonus once. See the promo terms and conditions for full details.
What Can You Do With 15,000 Wyndham Points?
There are currently 3 redemption levels with Wyndham Rewards: 7500, 15,000 and 30,000 points per night. The majority of hotels fall into the 15,000 point category. Unfortunately, the nicer hotels in some popular locations are now 30,000 points so this promo will only get you halfway to a free night at those.
You can also use 1500/3000/6000 points toward a “Go Fast” rate, Wyndham’s points & cash option. I believe the cash portion is now tied to the paid rate on your chosen date so the sweet spots that existed previously are no longer available. Still, it’s a point redemption method that can save you money.
Are There Actually Any 7500 Point Hotels?
They are darn scarce. And if you do find one please read the online reviews carefully. That goes for any hotel really, but I would say if you’re looking at budget brands one should take extra caution to ensure the property is decent.
Redeem Wyndham Rewards For Aeroplan Miles
If you’re focused on collecting Aeroplan miles, note that you can convert Wyndham points to Aeroplan at a rate of 6000 WR to 1200 AP. So, you’d have enough for at least 2400 Aeroplan miles with this promo. Depending on the amount of base points earned from the stays, you may have enough to convert into 3600 miles.
If you have your Wyndham account set to earn miles instead of points, you’ll still earn miles for the stays but the bonus will post in points. (In my experience, this is the opposite of Choice Privileges or IHG Rewards where your account must be set to earn points before registration for a points promotion bonus to apply.)
Bottom Line
This is a nice way to get some points. My parents booked an Air Miles flight out of Moncton during a similar promotion in 2018. It worked out well because they needed a hotel the night before departure and again after their return. They rated the new Wingate in Moncton quite highly.
Remember that to qualify for the bonus, the two stays must be at Canadian hotels. If you have any road trips planned and need a basic hotel en route, this is a great way to capitalize on a promotion.
