A favourite Sobeys Air Miles promotion is back again. If you are keen to boost your Air Miles balance (or save on gas) this is something of which you should definitely take advantage. There is also a Blue Weekend promo at Lawtons Drugs which is a convenient departure from the Friday-only deals of the past.
Buy $200 in Sobeys Gift Cards, Get 100 Bonus Air Miles
The promotion is the same as we’ve seen in the Sobeys flyer previously: choose between 100 bonus Air Miles or a 25 cents per litre fuel voucher when you purchase $200 in Sobeys gift cards. Note that it doesn’t run the full duration of the flyer – only March 4-6, 2021 (Thursday to Saturday). Limit of five per customer.

Why is it a favourite?
The best thing about this Air Miles promo is that you don’t need to buy certain products or spend a specified amount on groceries to trigger the bonus. These gift cards are not only good for your regular Sobeys/Foodland grocery shopping but are also valid at Lawtons Drugs and Shell gas stations attached to a Needs or Sobeys Express convenience store. (I understand some folks use them to buy gift cards for other retailers but that could possibly be against store policy so I wouldn’t count on doing it even though a cashier might let it pass on occasion.)
If you are a holder of a Scotiabank Gold Amex or Cobalt Amex you receive 5x the points on grocery store purchases so this promo is a nice opportunity to rack up points in two programs.
This is also an opportune time to to switch your Air Miles earning preference to Cash (if you currently have it set to 100% Dream) so you’ll have some Cash miles on hand if and when Mega Miles comes around again. Major promotions like Mega Miles and Shop The Block typically include an offer or two for redeeming Cash miles.
Lawton Drugs Blue Weekend (March 5-7, 2021)
After you purchase your Sobeys gift card(s) you could then turn around and use them on any Lawtons Drugs Blue Weekend offers that appeal to you. The Lawtons flyer also includes a offer of 40 bonus miles when you spend $60 during the same period (Friday-Sunday).
Bottom Line
If you shop at Sobeys, Foodland, Lawtons or buy gas at Shell, this Sobeys gift card deal is a super chance to grab some easy bonus miles. And it’s great to see Blue Friday transition into Blue Weekend. Aside from the general convenience of having more time to take advantage of of a promotion, it’s nice to be able to plan around the weather and not miss out on a good deal because of it. This is especially important for those of us living in rural areas, impatiently waiting for spring to arrive.
