The latest IHG Rewards PointBreaks list is out. These are IHG hotels with redemption rates temporarily lowered to between 5000 and 15,000 points. If you’ve got some points, booking one of these can be a great way to maximize their value. I’m actually quite pleased with this list. If any of the hotels interest you be sure to lock in a reservation sooner rather than later because supply is limited and they will revert to the original redemption rate.
It would be nice if there were more Canadian hotels on the list. A small comfort is the fact that this list only covers two months so another one will be released by the end of October.
Here are the Canadian hotels:
5000 Points
Holiday Inn & Suites Fort Saskatchewan
10,000 Points
Holiday Inn – Calgary Airport
Holiday Inn Express & Suites Sherwood Park – Edmonton Area
Holiday Inn Express & Suites Saint – Hyacinthe
15,000 Points
Holiday Inn Express & Suites Calgary South – Macleod Trail S
Holiday Inn Express & Suites Halifax Airport
The 10,000 and 15,000 point hotels will let you book a points+cash rate as well. Be sure to check your IHG Rewards Accelerate promotion tasks to see if you were targeted for a points+cash offer to receive a 4500 point bonus.
Here is a quick sample of a few other rather appealing ones:
5000 Points
Candlewood Suites Syracuse Airport
I stayed there for one night several years ago. If you know anyone from Ontario who will be catching a cheap flight out of Syracuse you can gift them a free hotel night if you’re feeling generous.
10,000 Points
Holiday Inn Bangor
Candlewood Suites Portland Scarborough
If you have any plans to drive south in the autumn one of these might work for an overnight stop en route.
Holiday Inn Gdansk – City Centre
Poland is great. Go to Poland.
15,000 Points
Holiday Inn Express & Suites Halifax Airport
This hotel is usually 30,000 points which I think it a bit high so here’s an opportunity to get it for a reasonable point rate.
Holiday Inn San Francisco – Fisherman’s Wharf
It will disappear fast – it’s usually 40,000 and cash rates are high.
Final Thoughts
I have used PointBreaks many times in the past to make a trip happen. Sometimes luck will go your way and one will fit into pre-exisiting plans, but more often than not, you just follow the deal and let one of these determine your destination.
