Air Miles has released another promotion for its online shopping portal, airmilesshops.ca. With this one you can earn up to 750 bonus miles depending on the number of stores you buy from and the amount you spend. This is in addition to the recent promo for referring other members to airmilesshops.ca.
Promo Details
To earn the bonus miles, your purchases must all be made online through airmilesshops.ca by March 28, 2021. Qualifying purchases need to be at least $20 before tax and shipping, which is the regular minimum to earn 1 base air mile. Beyond that, there is no threshold spend requirement at any one retailer; instead there is a cumulative spending amount you have to meet in order to get the bonus.
- Spend $100 across 2 participating stores – get 75 bonus miles
- Spend $300 across 3 participating stores – get 375 bonus miles
- Spend $500 across 5 participating stores – get 750 bonus miles
These amounts are before shipping, duty and taxes and the offer doesn’t apply to travel bookings or things like signing up for Disney+. See the terms and conditions for the full list of excluded purchases under the promotion.
And always remember to check the “Store Info” page for each store to see what items don’t qualify to earn miles. Most retailers exclude gift cards with the exception of Indigo. Rona used to be another exception but they’ve since left the list of participating online stores and the Air Miles program.
Many merchants periodically offer a multiplier bonus of 2x, 5x, 10x etc. so be on the lookout for those as well.
There is also an email promotion for an Airmilesshops Referral Bonus – Up To 1000 Air Miles (until March 23, 2021) where you can earn bonus miles for each member you refer (up to 5) who has never previously purchased anything through airmilesshops.ca.
Terms and Conditions
The T&Cs appear to be set atop the terms and conditions for the referral promotion which is not otherwise specifically mentioned on the page. Although these promotions are stackable in the sense that members can benefit from both simultaneously, I don’t know why they have to literally stack them all together. Has no one heard of paragraphs? Anyway, here’s the pertinent info for Mix.Match.Miles.:
¹ LIMITED-TIME OFFER: Between 00:00:01 a.m. ET on March 8 and 23:59:59 p.m. on March 28, 2021, Collectors must make: (i) purchases at 2 different participating online stores that cumulatively total $100 CDN or more, excluding shipping, duty and taxes, to qualify for 75 Bonus Miles; or (ii) purchases at 3 different participating online stores that cumulatively total $300 CDN or more, excluding shipping, duty and taxes, for 375 Bonus Miles; or (iii) purchases at 5 different participating online stores that cumulatively total 500 CDN or more, excluding shipping, duty and taxes, for 750 Bonus Miles. No minimum purchase required at any participating online store, but the minimum offer spend threshold must be made cumulatively across 2 or 3 or 5 participating stores, respectively, to qualify. Collectors must sign in at airmilesshops.ca before purchasing in order to get Miles and qualify for this offer. Offer can be combined with other Bonus Miles offers. This offer does not apply to purchases or sign-ups made at the following stores: eHarmony, Disney+, FabFitFun, Pimsleur, Wealthsimple, Weight Watchers, and any travel online stores (including, but not limited to travel bookings, car rentals, and hotel stays). Offer can be combined with other Reward Miles Bonus Offers. This offer is valid on the purchase of gift cards only at online retailers who regularly offer Reward Miles on gift card purchases. See airmilesshops.ca for details. All online stores are subject to change and may be withdrawn at any time. Once you meet the $100 spend threshold at 2 participating online stores, 75 Bonus Miles will be deposited into your account. If you then meet the $300 spend threshold at 3 participating online stores, the remaining 300 Bonus Miles will be deposited into your account as a separate posting. If you then meet the $500 spend threshold at 5 participating online stores, the remaining 375 Bonus Miles will be deposited into your account as a separate posting. Please allow up to 70 days after the Bonus Offer end date for all Bonus Miles to be posted to Collector Account.
The Problem with Online Shopping Portal Promotions
Now, sometimes these promos sound good in theory but due to issues I do not quite comprehend, the purchases don’t register and you don’t get your miles. So, even if you click through to the store via the airmilesshops.ca portal and do everything correctly, your base and bonus miles might never show up. The debacle with a recent Aeroplan eStore promo is an example. These glitches are unfortunately not uncommon and the more stores involved, the greater the chance you’ll run into a headache getting all your miles posted to your account. Leaving purchases till late in the promo period also poses a bit of risk if there’s some lag time with the transaction.
Conclusion
I guess if you do a lot of online shopping this could be a great opportunity to earn some bonus miles. However, I suspect for most people, getting the 375 or 750 miles will likely be a tall order. Still, it’s nice to see lots of promotions from Air Miles and hopefully we’ll see the return of Mega Miles fairly soon. (If you recall, the 2020 iteration was supposed to begin in March but was postponed to the fall due to the pandemic.)
If you decide to participate in this promo, fingers crossed it all works perfectly for you and the miles post correctly.
