Choice Hotels has come out with another discount promotion for stays in Canada. This one is not as generous as the sale that just ended June 21st but it can still save you money on a hotel stay this summer. When you book by July 9th and stay by September 30th, you’ll get 25% off the best available rate while Choice Privileges members get an additional 5% discount.
Book by July 9, Stay by September 30, 2020
You’ve got a couple of weeks to decide whether to make a reservation and lock in a discounted rate.
Free Cancellation
This rate includes free cancellation so it doesn’t hurt to make a speculative booking or make a Plan B reservation in case your first choice getaway doesn’t happen. It varies among hotels but I’ve noticed that a few Choice hotels have very generous cancellation policies including up till 4 pm on the day of check-in.
Terms and Conditions
From the promo webpage:
*Terms & Conditions: This offer is a 25% discount off Best Available Rate for one-night stays or more nights. Choice Privileges members will receive an additional 5% discount (total discount 28.75% off Best Available Rate). Currently available at participating hotels only in Canada. Offer is subject to availability at participating hotels. To receive the Choice Privileges member discount, reservation must be booked through a Choice Hotels direct channel, such as www.choicehotels.com, Choice Hotels mobile application, Choice Hotels contact centers or at a Choice branded hotel. Book by July 9, 2020 and stay by September 30, 2020. A stay includes all consecutive nights at the same hotel regardless of check-ins or checkouts. Only valid for qualifying stays, which exclude rooms booked below certain rates, reward night stays, complimentary rooms, rooms paid for as part of a convention or meeting, rooms booked through a travel agent or third party online retailer including online travel agencies, wholesale packages, group tours, and stays booked using the employee discount or the friends, family and associate discount. Offer cannot be combined with any other discounts, price promotions, or special price offers, except Canadian residents can combine this offer with the “stay twice, earn a free night summer campaign” for Choice Privileges members. Discount will be applied immediately upon booking the room. Choice Hotels reserves the right to change or discontinue this offer at any time. Available to Canadian residents only. Hotels are independently owned and operated.
Interestingly, the additional 5% off for members amounts to a 28.75% total discount. Funny they didn’t just make it 30% off for members.
Choice Privileges Promo – Stay Twice, Get 8000 Points
The terms noted above state that Canadian residents may combine this promotion with the “stay twice, earn a free night summer campaign”. This is the standard Choice Privileges promotion where you earn 8000 points after every two stays. It’s a good value points-earning promo so don’t forget to register if you think there’s any chance you’ll have a couple of Choice hotel stays before September 7, 2020 when that promo concludes.
UPDATE: there is now another link for the “free night” after two stays (meaning 8000 points) promo that doesn’t start till July 10th but goes to September 7, 2020 like the other one. I previously registered for the first version of the promo that began June 10th. The new page says “Register Now” but when I tried to register it said “The selected offer does not exist.” Maybe it will begin working closer to the start date. Weird.
Choice Hotels in Atlantic Canada
Now that an Atlantic “bubble” has been announced, as of July 3, 2020 we’ll be able to travel around Atlantic Canada while adhering to the public health directives aimed at preventing the spread of COVID-19. If you’re comfortable travelling, this summer will be a great opportunity to see what our own region has to offer.
Choice has individual webpages listing their properties in Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island and Newfoundland and Labrador, but I’ll list them here as they appear to be incomplete.
The promotion terms refer to “participating hotels” and I noticed last time that not all hotels offered the special rate. Hopefully most of them will have it available this time around.
Nova Scotia
As I mentioned in the previous Choice post, the Comfort Hotel Bayer’s Lake actually takes the top spot on TripAdvisor for Halifax area hotels. It’s a good option if you’re fine staying outside the downtown, especially if you plan to do some shopping in the Bayer’s Lake business park.

When researching these properties during the last sale, I discovered that the Quality Inn & Suites Downtown in Charlottetown actually includes two 1850s houses in addition to the more traditional hotel building. How interesting. You can earn some Choice points while getting a B&B vibe.

Bottom Line
The previous promotion offered 35% off single night stays and 40% off stays of two nights or longer, so this one is a step down. Still, it’s a decent discount so if you’re eyeing one of the above hotels for a close-to-home trip, it will save you a few bucks and that’s always good.
