There are 15 Best Western hotels in the Maritimes as listed here. Most are of the “Best Western Plus” type and a few are simply “Best Western”. There are some good Best Western Rewards promotions currently including an interesting credit card offer. If you have any summer travel plans that involve Best Westerns, these might help you get some added value from your stays.
The first promotion is Earn a $50 Best Western Gift Card Every Two Separate Stays. It also states that you save 10% when booking direct on bestwestern.com and earn 1000 rewards points for stays completed during the promotion period. New or existing members can earn up to 3 gift cards while elite members can earn up to 5. The gift cards will have an expiration date of 120 days after fulfillment or November 15, 2016 whichever comes first. The promotion period ends August 28, 2016.
The other promotion is for CAA members and is Stay 2 Separate Times and Get a Free Night. The promotion period lasts till September 4, 2016 and the Free Night voucher must be used by November 20, 2016. The 2 stays can be at any Best Western worldwide but the Free Night voucher can only be used in Canada, USA or the Caribbean. Limit of 1 voucher per member.
The terms and conditions for each state that the promotion is “not valid with any other offer, promotion or discount”. However, you can always try registering for both and hope for the best.
Another promo in the mix is one that has been offered multiple times before and it’s a good choice if you have only one Best Western stay coming up and prefer to collect Aeroplan miles instead of Best Western Rewards points. Until August 31, 2016 you’l’l earn 1750 bonus miles on top of the base 250 giving you 2000 Aeroplan miles for each qualifying stay. Check it out here.
Lastly, if you’re currently a Best Western Rewards member you probably received an email about this. The MBNA Best Western MasterCard has an offer out until July 10, 2016. If you apply through the offer link you will get 20,000 points upon your first purchase and another 20,000 after spending $1000 within 90 days of opening the account OR spend $2000 within that time and end up with a total of 60,000 points. It also gives you Gold status with Best Western which gets bumped up to Diamond status if you put $10,000 on the card within one year. Read more on the application page.
So what can you get with 60,000 Best Western points? There are 8 redemption levels for free nights that range from 8000 to 36,000 points per night and they can vary month to month at each hotel. For example, the Best Western Charlottetown is 20,000 points this July – Sept; 12,000 points in October; 8000 points Nov – March; 12,000 in April and 16,000 next May. Some hotels have no variation in points at all.
To see the calendar of point levels, first choose “Best Western Rewards Points” from the drop-down menu on the booking page, click “Check rooms & rates” and then over on the left click “Dates are flexible”. Above the calendar you’ll see “Options” which is a nice feature that lets you instantly switch to the cash rates.
It can take a bit of searching to find hotels in appealing destinations at the lower point levels but there are a few out there. Here are some examples:
