The Sobeys flyer (Atlantic version) that starts today (Nov. 7, 2019) includes the promotion to get 100 Air Miles for every $200 in Sobeys gift cards. It runs till Saturday and is a terrific way to boost your Air Miles account. Another good avenue to get some miles is to take advantage of promos like “Shop The Block” which is set to start Nov. 14th.
The Sobeys gift cards are great because you can also use them at Lawtons or for gas at Shell stations at a Needs or Sobeys Express. It’s especially useful if you use a Scotiabank Gold Amex or Amex Cobalt credit card to get 5x the points on grocery spending.
Last year Shop The Block gave collectors the ability to earn 2000 bonus miles upon using 7 different partner offers. Sadly, this year the biggest bonus possible is only 1200 miles. That’s quite a reduction. However, at least it’s back again and this year saw the introduction of Blue Friday specials at Sobeys and Foodland which takes a bit of the sting away I guess.
Although the promotion is not set to start until November 14th, one can get an idea of the coupons by checking out the Air Miles discussions on forums like Red Flag Deals and Disboards. A few folks have gotten their hands on the coupon booklets for Ontario and have posted pictures.
As always, once the promo goes live, be sure to check both the Shop The Block website and the paper coupon booklet available in stores to ensure you’re aware of all the offers. Hopefully it will be relatively easy to complete.
One way to offset the lower bonus this year is to sign up any members of your household who don’t yet have an Air Miles account. A new account is in a good position to knock off a couple of easy things like signing up for surveys and registering to convert HBC Rewards points to Air Miles if those are back as options.
Already have 2. Sobeys & Shell. There is something to be said for the receipts that state “Shop the Block”. Gives peace of mind that you can go on to the next one.
