The popular Amex promotion that rewards cardholders for shopping at smaller merchants has a big change this time around – it now applies all over Canada, not just in a few select cities. Through this promo you’ll get a $5 credit for spending at least $10 at a participating merchant when you pay with an eligible Amex card. You can get up to $50 in credits for making purchases at 10 different small businesses.
Register Your Amex Card
If you received an email about this promotion, log into your Amex online account and register where you see all the other offers for which you’re eligible.
If it doesn’t show under your available offers, this link is apparently where one can register without logging in to an Amex account.
Be sure to check out the complete terms and conditions of the promotion in the footnotes of the webpage.
What about the Scotiabank Gold Amex?
I was able to register my Scotiabank Gold Amex card by using a link for Amex cards not issued by Amex Bank of Canada.
Hopefully it will work.
Local Amex Acceptance

We used an Amex to get some tasty takeout lunch from a small local eatery.
Bottom Line
This is a great promotion and perhaps it will encourage Amex cardholders to further support small local businesses, especially during these challenging times. Remember you have until September 13th to get your $50 worth of credits.
New Amex Applications – Minimum Spend Extension Ends June 30, 2020
As a side note, if you’re thinking of applying for an Amex credit card in the relative near future, we’ll very soon see the end of the temporary Welcome Bonus Extension Offer that gives eligible applicants 6 months instead of the standard 3 months to meet the minimum spend threshold to trigger the sign-up bonus.

AMEX’s offers during the pandemic have been lucrative. If you use the Platinum at a restaurant and combine the $5 savings to a 6x multiplier with the possibility of a 12% reimbursement…
