This week Condor Airlines announced that it’s bringing back the Halifax – Munich route. Although it’s just once a week, it’s welcome news to any Maritimers looking for more non-stop flight options to Europe. Currently, other non-stops include London Heathrow on Air Canada and London Gatwick, Glasgow and Dublin on WestJet. Last year WestJet’s Halifax – Paris route was suspended due to the 737 Max 8 situation and that issue remains unresolved (although it appears bookable as a non-stop starting mid May). Icelandair removed Halifax from its seasonal schedule for the same reason. [Read more…]
Just Back From Gdansk & Torun – Price Info
Ever since I visited Warsaw & Krakow in 2016 I’ve wanted to return to see more of Poland. When an opportunity arose to book an affordable trip back in August, my mother and I decided to go for it. We had a wonderful time and I plan in the future to share more of my impressions of Poland and why it’s a great destination for those looking for a low cost trip to Europe. But for now I’m just going to highlight a few specifics that underscore that point. Here are some of the prices we paid for lodging, sightseeing, transit and food. [Read more…]
Dresden, Germany – Add It To Your Trip To Berlin Or Prague
It was around a year ago that I visited the city of Dresden in eastern Germany. We ended up going there sort of by accident but it turned out to be a wonderful experience. I thought I’d share a bit about our visit in case you are considering a trip to the area and have time to add it to your itinerary. [Read more…]
How We Booked A Cheap Trip To Poland
Next month my mother and I will be going to Europe for 8 nights. This trip came into being over a span of a few hours last week. It’s an example of several budget travel elements neatly fitting together to make a trip possible. [Read more…]
Resources Page Update – Useful Travel Planning Links
My blog does not contain the essential ultimate comprehensive guide to anything. The “Resources” page is just a list of the websites I use to research and plan travel along with a few comments on them. Feel free to check it out and make suggestions for additional links.
First Booking On Hotels.com – What I Learned
Last week I helped my parents book the second night of their upcoming PEI getaway. I’ve been aware of Hotels.com for a long time but I had yet to use it to make a reservation. They were going to pay for the stay with a Hotels.com gift card so now was the time to try it out. [Read more…]
I Bought A SPIbelt – A Travel Item I Didn’t Know Existed
A few weeks ago Mountain Equipment Co-op emailed me a coupon code for $10 off a purchase either in-store or online. At first I was going to let it pass because free shipping requires a $50 minimum purchase. Picking up at the store would necessitate a trip to Halifax and I didn’t know when that would happen. Fortunately, I received another email about a one day promo for free shipping with no spending requirement. So I looked around the website and discovered an interesting potential purchase. [Read more…]
Blog Posts On The Horizon
I thought I would share a list of ideas for future blog posts. My travels have been limited to North America and Europe so much of the content will be influenced by those experiences and interests. Points and miles also figure heavily in my travel research and planning so those topics will appear frequently. I hope to highlight as many good airfare deals and loyalty program promotions as is feasible along with some assessment of their value. These are in no particular order… [Read more…]
Back to the Blog
After an extended hiatus, I’m going to fire this thing up again. I originally decided to start this blog as a place to put budget travel information that might be of use to someone. That will still be the goal.
I have a lot of great memories from past trips. They are a valuable gift and spur me to create more. Unfortunately, travel is often quite expensive and it can be a time-consuming endeavour to research how to best arrange an affordable and enjoyable trip. I hope to provide some tips and info to help get excellent value for your money or points.
I am also going to try to learn how to give this blog a more polished appearance. Figuring out a complicated Aeroplan itinerary or finding the right accommodation to stay for a week – that’s fun. Figuring out computer stuff – not fun at all. But I will try my best. Any suggestions in that regard are most welcome.
