[UPDATE: this sale has been postponed] Every year the U.S. Travel Association holds a big sale of various loyalty point packages, hotel stays, theme park tickets etc. There are usually some great bargains available and Canadian residents are eligible to make purchases. I see on the Daily Getaways website they’ve announced the next sale will begin April 27, 2020 with a preview to be released on April 20th. [Read more…]
Halifax to Europe Airfare Under $800 (Summer 2020)
If you’re watching for airfare deals to Europe from Halifax, you’ve likely noticed that the best fares tend to be in May/June and September/October. If you can only travel in July or August, finding a bargain is more of a challenge. I looked to see what’s currently available in the summer of 2020 under $800 per person, return. [Read more…]
Going to Scotland or England? Consider a National Trust for Canada Membership
There’s a great potential money-saving opportunity for anyone travelling to the UK and planning to visit National Trust sites. I recently learned that membership in the National Trust for Canada is also valid in England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland, Jersey and Australia. [Read more…]
Last Minute Timeshare Rentals From Owners – Potential March Break Deals
In this post I’m referring to renting a unit from a timeshare owner. I’m not talking about the promotions where you listen to a sales pitch to get a discount on your stay. If you rent from an owner, there is no obligation to attend any presentation. You might get asked to do it but you are free to decline. Anyway, there’s a website where timeshare owners post rental offers within a 45 day period at a capped rate. If you’re someone who likes to book last minute travel deals, this is perhaps a good site to know about. [Read more…]
Open-Jaw Non-Stop Flights From Halifax Under $700 (UK and Germany)
Three airlines offer non-stop flights to Europe from Halifax: Air Canada, WestJet and Condor. We might as well remove Air Canada from the list, however, because the grounding of the 737 Max 8 has put the London Heathrow non-stop in limbo with no foreseeable return. This is particularly unfortunate as it was the only flight that wasn’t limited to seasonal service. On the bright side, both WestJet and Condor offer non-stop flights to more than one city. Therefore, I did a bit of searching today to find a couple of reasonably priced non-stop open-jaw itineraries for spring 2020. [Read more…]
Searching For March Break Flight Availability (Air Miles & Aeroplan)
The information in this post obviously reflects a moment in time. Any availability I found might have disappeared by the time I hit the “publish” button on the blog. I just thought it might be worth going through the process of looking for options to redeem miles during Nova Scotia’s March break, just to see what I could find. Many people have to plan their travels around school breaks and using miles is a much bigger challenge when you’re competing with those in the same boat. [Read more…]

On A Budget? Go To New York City Between January 21 & February 9, 2020
If you want to see the sights and sounds of New York City on the cheap, there’s a way to do it and it’s all about timing. January and February are a relatively slow period for tourism in the Big Apple, presumably in part due to something called winter. Fortunately, you’re Canadian, so the weather shouldn’t be a deterrent. During an upcoming 3 week period there are some great opportunities to cut your costs in half while capitalizing on low hotel rates. [Read more…]
