I was thinking maybe this week’s Sobeys (and Foodland) flyers would have Blue Friday specials. Sadly they did not. However, there is a good gift card bonus in the Sobeys flyer if you shop at Gap, Old Navy or Banana Republic. And if you shop online you might want to keep your eye on the Air Miles Round-up contest page.
Air Miles For Gift Cards
Always check the bottom of the last page of the flyer to see if there is an Air Miles bonus on certain gift cards. This one is 70 miles for every $50 in Gap Options gift cards. Retail gift cards are great if you know you will spend money there in the future. Further, if you wait until a sale at the store you can effectively stack the discounts.
Round-Up Contest
The Air Miles Round-Up contest had a promotion for buying via the Air Miles Shops portal but it ended Aug. 19. However, if you click on the Round-Up contest link on the Air Miles Shops page you’ll see it says “Stay Tuned! Another great offer for the Round-Up contest is coming soon!” Hopefully it will be something good.
On the actual contest page there is no indication of an impending new offer. Nor is there any sign of a new Sobeys or Lawtons offer. It seems incredibly strange that those offers ended Aug. 14 but the contest/promotion doesn’t end until Sept. 14. That’s quite annoying to anyone just discovering the contest now.
UPDATE: The contest web page now displays an offer of 10x the miles for qualifying purchases made through airmilesshops.ca Aug. 23-27.
FURTHER UPDATE: Now it says Aug. 23 – Sept. 2.
PC Optimum – Ultimate Dining Card
Leaving Air Miles for a moment, if you look at the Atlantic Superstore flyer you will see a promo for 15,000 PC Optimum points for every purchase of a $100 Ultimate Dining card. This is a gift card that may be redeemed at many restaurants like Swiss Chalet, Montana’s etc. If you eat at any of those establishments on a semi-regular basis then it’s a great deal.
Bottom Line
Watch for gift card promotions in the flyers and keep an eye on the Air Miles Round-Up website for another online shopping offer.
