It’s a good week for flyer promos if you’re an Air Miles collector in Atlantic Canada. There is a 20th anniversary multiplier promotion, a really great Cash mile redemption discount at Sobeys, and a Blue Weekend at Lawtons Drugs. Another set of Bonus Boom offers have been released as well so if you are not yet an active Air Miles member, now might be the time to start.
Sobeys Atlantic Flyer (Aug. 26 – Sept. 1, 2021)
Normally you can redeem Air Miles in the Cash category at a rate of 95 miles for $10 off your purchase, but this week’s Sobeys flyer allows you to redeem in increments of only 75 miles. There have been Cash mile redemption offers in the flyer before but they usually take the form of a single 25 mile bonus for redeeming 95 cash miles. This lowering of the redeemable amount to 75 is much better because there is no apparent limit, unlike a one-time bonus.
The terms include the following:
Offer applies to qualifying AIR MILES Cash redemptions in a single transaction in-store at Sobeys locations in Atlantic Canada. You must inform the cashier that you want to use Cash Miles and present your AIR MILES card at the time of purchase. During the offer period, use the Cash Miles in your AIR MILES Cash Account in store in increments of 75 Cash Miles for every $10 towards your purchases (instead of the typical 95 Cash Miles required) at Sobeys Atlantic locations only. Gift cards and near cash-back products are excluded, and other exclusions may also apply.
In contrast, check out the Foodland flyer which has the usual 95/25 promotion with a limit of one offer per collector.
The other promotion in the Sobeys flyer is in celebration of 20 years in the Air Miles program. If you spend $200 or more, you’ll get 20x the base miles. If you spend $100 or more, you’ll receive 10x the base miles.
The base earning rate at Sobeys is 1 mile for every $20 so if you spend $200 or more, it’ll come to 200 miles total or 50 if you spend over $100.
Lawtons Blue Weekend (Aug. 27 – 29, 2021)
Lawtons Drugs is back with another Blue Weekend promotion. Check the Lawtons flyer for all the product-specific offers to see if anything happens to be on your shopping list. There is also a coupon to earn 40 bonus miles when you spend at least $60. (Remember you can use Sobeys gift cards at Lawtons).
Air Miles Bonus Boom (Aug. 26 – Sept. 8, 2021)
No sign of Mega Miles this year. Instead we have yet another Bonus Boom where members earn 95 bonus miles for using three offers. This promotion always tends to be underwhelming compared to the big ones but it’s always nice to get some extra miles, so it’s not terrible.
Go to the Bonus Boom website to see all the offers. (Or if you’re looking at “All Offers” on the Air Miles site, look to see which ones say “Bonus Boom” at the bottom.) Be sure to opt in to any offers that require it (after technical difficulties resolve).
You’ll notice that many of the Bonus Boom offers are the same as those in the flyer so you’ll be able to tell what’s in the Sobeys flyer next week.
Note any opportunities to stack offers. For example, if a Staples offer can be used online, go through airmilesshops.ca if your purchase will trigger the shopping portal offer as well, making sure to add your Air Miles number on the Staples site when checking out.
Hopefully we’ll see Mega Miles return later in the year.
Conclusion
The previous Sobeys flyer had a promotion that pops up relatively often: buy $200 in Sobeys gift cards, get 100 bonus miles. That one is a no-brainer, especially here in the Maritimes. Now, if this 75-instead-of-95 redemption offer similarly comes around frequently, it’ll be a terrific way to get extra value for your miles. Although gift cards are excluded per the terms, remember that you can add one to your grocery order and ostensibly redeem for groceries but consider it as a gift card redemption. Anyway, if you have a sizeable stash of Cash Air Miles, this week would be an opportune time to use them.
