Another Blue Friday. Check out the Sobeys and Foodland flyers. Both include a coupon to get 50 miles for spending $100. Be sure to look at the regular Air Miles offers in the flyers as well. It seems like Blue Friday offerings tend to be variations on a theme as the items are quite similar each time. I guess that lends a bit of predictability to the promo but it’s not so great if the products don’t tend to be things you purchase or if you typically buy them elsewhere at a lower price. I assume the next Blue Friday will be sometime in August.
Same tips as before (with a couple of tweaks) but I’ll add one off the top…
Check Your Receipt Before You Leave The Store
If your receipt is not correct you can get it fixed right then. If you wait till you get home life might get in the way and you forget to go back and get your missing miles. In depends somewhat on the store, but in our experience Sobeys Customer Service has been good to rectify missing miles situations.
Don’t Overpay
If it’s not a good price, don’t buy it just for the Air Miles. Air Miles should be a bonus. You don’t want to pay extra for them. Of course, if the Air Miles are of such a high value that it’s a good deal overall, then it’s still a wise purchase.
Don’t Buy Stuff You Don’t Normally Buy
The miles bonus may be very appealing but don’t overlook the fact that you might not even like it and you have to buy multiples. Make the rare exception if it’s something that looks interesting and you’re genuinely curious and willing to take the risk. You’ll win some and lose some. Those mug cakes are a steaming pile of chocolate goo. Not my cup of tea…or mug of cake.
Stock Up On Dry Goods and Things That Freeze Well
If there is a deal on something you know you will use eventually, consider buying a bunch. It seems like an obvious thing but if you are frugal by nature it doesn’t always come easy to pay upfront for something you won’t consume for quite a while. There might be a limit of how many of an item you can buy but it’s unlikely to be an overly severe restriction.
Be Organized
It’s important to have a list and know what you are planning to buy when you head into the store. If there a lot of people there it can throw you off your game a bit so it’s a good idea to have something to which you can refer.
Pay Attention To The Details
If you have to buy a package of a certain size, quantity or brand variation, be sure you have the right things in your cart. Have the flyer with you.
Ask For A Rain Cheque
If the store has run out of a certain item, be sure to ask for a voucher so you can come back and get it another day for that price with those bonus miles.
Don’t Forget Your Loaded Offers
Remember to load your targeted Air Miles offers from Sobeys. Sign up to be notified by email or go to the Get My Offers website and input your Air Miles number. Hopefully new ones will be released later today. If you’re lucky, one of these will stack with a Blue Friday offer.
Food Bank
If you give to the Food Bank and there’s a Blue Friday item you believe is a good one for donation, consider that option.
Good luck to anyone headed to a Sobeys or Foodland this Friday.
