This is the second time this month that Sobeys is offering its excellent recurring gift card promotion and this time it’s joined by Foodland with a similar promo for earning easy bonus Air Miles. Lawtons Drugs is also back with its bonus for purchasing Compliments brand products. And if you have a stash of PC Optimum points you might consider putting them to use during Superstore’s Redemption Event.
Air Miles Promo Details
These three offers are in effect for the full duration of the flyer: March 18-24 for Sobeys and Foodland, March 19-25 for Lawtons.
Sobeys – Buy $200 in Sobeys gift cards (limit of 5), get 100 bonus Air Miles or a 25 cents per litre fuel voucher
The Sobeys flyer also includes a variety of bonus offers on specific items.
Foodland – Buy $100 in Foodland gift cards (limit of 5), get 50 bonus Air Miles
Lawtons – Buy $35 in Compliments products, get 75 bonus Air Miles
(The terms stipulate that one cannot purchase a Sobeys/Foodland gift card with a Sobeys/Foodland gift card. I’d assume that would go without saying, but apparently people try to do it if they feel it must be made explicit.)
Why it’s a great Air Miles promotion here in Nova Scotia
The best thing about this promo is that you don’t need to buy certain products or spend a specified amount on groceries to trigger the bonus. Further, the gift cards are valid not only for Sobeys and Foodland grocery stores but can also be used at Lawtons Drugs and gas stations associated with Sobeys convenience stores like Needs and Sobeys Express. When redeeming them for gas and drugstore purchases in addition to groceries, it’s not too difficult to use them up in a timely manner.
A couple of reminders
If you are a holder of a Scotiabank Gold Amex or Cobalt Amex you’ll receive 5x the points on grocery store purchases so this promo is a nice opportunity to rack up points in two programs. (There is a Great Canadian Rebates offer of $100 on the Scotiabank Gold Amex that expires March 31 if you’re interested in applying for that one.)
This might also be an opportune time to to switch your Air Miles earning preference to Cash (if you currently have it set at 100% Dream) so you’ll have some Cash miles if and when Mega Miles comes around again. Major promotions like Mega Miles and Shop The Block typically include an offer or two for redeeming Cash miles so it’s nice to have some at the ready if you need them.
PC Optimum Redemption Event
If you have a stockpile of PC Optimum points, you should check out the Atlantic Superstore flyer. The Redemption Event gives members a certain number of points back when you redeem at three different thresholds, as follows:
Redeem 70,000 points, get 7000 points
Redeem 150,000 points, get 22,500 points
Redeem 250,000 points, get 50,000 points
There are also a number of bonus offers on individual products.
It’s nice that promotions like this and similar offers at Shoppers Drug Mart provide members the opportunity to redeem points above their fixed value. It therefore makes sense to hold on to your points and not spend them spontaneously in order to capitalize on these promos.
Final Thoughts
I’m a little surprised to see the Sobeys gift card deal back again so soon. Earlier in the month it was offered for three days only though so it’s definitely more convenient when it runs the full week of the flyer. If you’e able to take advantage of it, it’s as close to a no-brainer as possible to boost your Air Miles balance at no real cost to you.
Finally, if you or someone in your circle has any online shopping to do, there are two airmilesshops.ca promotions underway at the moment. One involves referral bonuses you would have received an email about which ends March 23, 2021, and the other is the Mix.Match.Miles promo where you can earn up to 750 bonus miles that ends March 28, 2021. A recent email to members also revealed that a Bonus Boom promotion will start March 25th so there might be a brief window for double dipping on that one if online shopping is included as one of the offers.
